The Age Issue #68 June 2010

"I'm interested in an attitude rather than any type of art, Mac Says. Punk in the true sense of it;people who are coming from an iconoclastic approach: TROUBLE MAKERS. Recently, there was a solo show by a young artist Rosie Kavanavoch, a critique of the fashion world featuring a photograph of a naked woman sitting on a couch with her legs splayed and a Chanel shopping bag over her head.."

JACQUI STOCKDALE** Strange Archipelago at Helen Gory Gallery

"...the nude in Antipodes balances a pile of objects on her slender frame: fragments of Mexican masks, Indian deities, and papier-mache skulls for the Day of the Dead. Instead of studying each of these unusual, treasured items individually, Stockdale fuses them together to make one teeming form. Each of the drawings and paintings in this series contains a swarming island of faces: masks which the artists has packed into mounds, like snow or dirt..."

Din Heagney I don't see how part of an artist's (or anyone's) body is sexist. That statement is clearly from someone who knows nothing about the history of art or its relationship to fashion and the body. BB you even refuse to read the artist statement... That's a fail.

Blakk Byrd Din, I'm the author of bellebyrd and blakkbyrd blogs, you might like to check them out, in particular everything under the 'feminist' tag. This article will help you understand what is sexist, when you've read and watched it get back to me
http://printaustralia.blogspot.com/2006/12/advertisings-image-of-women.html
I made my comment to open a debate on the appropriateness of exploiting women's bodies for financial gain.
Yesterday at 10:24pm · Report

Din Heagney Well, in this instance the artist in question, RK, has used her own body to model her own jewellery, she has also chosen to feature these images online as an extension of her current exhibition which explores (critically and with humour) the various ways women's bodies are associated with, and used in, fashion, advertising and art. This exhibition was featured as part of the Cultural Program for the L'Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival and is as much about celebrating the female form as critiquing its use in popular culture. While Kilbourne's documentary treads old ground, there is perhaps a better article on this topic here which includes the comment: "Several feminist artists in the 1970s were criticized for using their nude bodies in their work, especially if they were beautiful. In effect, women were not allowed to be beautiful and at the same time be successful with their work." I think this is exactly what you are doing, placing further limitations of female artists and the female body. http://www.artwomen.org/DoubleTrouble/dt-p4.htm

@BB: please clarify exactly what part of your posts encourages any form of debate?

Perhaps it was this:
"Anyone who needs to resort to "tits' to get attention clearly doesn't have any substance to their work"
Or this:
"This article will help you understand what is sexist, when you've read and watched it get back to me"

Can I suggest you either engage with the work in an intelligent way, or don't bother? Maybe next time you could discover a little about the artist's intentions before indulging in so much gratuitous facebook chest-puffing?

Your nest may be a sheltered place, but please don't air your ignorance here and expect to go unchallenged. Not tonight, Josephine.

MY WORLD POKES!

a little feedback from the smart and anonymous....
just a READ AWAY!!!

MELBOURNE ART & CULTURE CRITIC

Thinking back over the last week and trying to make a blog entry out of it.
- hmm, thinkin' back, watch me go honey!
I (whoever you are) finally saw No Vacancy’s new location on the other side of the QV centre (I do try to vary the galleries that I visit). No Vacancy has also slightly changed artistic direction, moving away from street art and is now exhibiting more illustrations. This is a move that other galleries associated with street art have also made as illustrations are more saleable. The illustrations on exhibition at No Vacancy when I visited were by Eveline Tarunadjaja, and full of detailed long hair, hence the exhibition’s title: “Dandruff”. Tarunadjaja’s illustrations are influenced by art neuvueau right down to the fonts and the use of gold ink on details.
- Gold ink eh? Cute.

MY TURN!!
Until Never also had an exhibition associated with the fashion festival. “The World of Kmossed” is exhibition by Rosie Kavanavoch with photographs from the limited edition book. The exhibition poked fun at the fashion festival, label bags and stupid, celebrity models, ripping the glamour to shreds with satire. In 2005 Kate Moss’s contract with Chanel was not renewed due to her reprobate behavior and Kavanavoch doesn’t hold back poking fun at this – and why shouldn’t she?

-Chanel and Kate? Fight? Sick!!!! Screw 'em bothe im this second 4 Lee McQueen..

I had a look at Hosier Lane and there were plenty of people doing the same on Saturday. And Catherine and I went on the Giant Sky Wheel at Birrarung Marr (not the broken white elephant of a giant wheel in the Docklands). It afforded some unique and pleasant views of the city and the Yarra River and I was happy to be going around in a big circle.
- as long as yr happy honey..

PRESS RELEASE

The World of Kmossed is creative, sexy, broke and a pressing release on the WORLD.

Whether REALLY it is a label,
Whether REALLY it is a clubbers guide.
Whether REALLY just a snapping of the auto paparazzi; It photographs, documents and illuminates the best of the downtown community of Melbourne and New York between 2008 and 2010. It celebrates their style, speed and perverse dedication to constant change.

Artists, Outfits, the integrity of celebration and the self-importance of ashphalt.
Oh, and Fashion week.
Quirky installations hang with vogue rafters.
Heels shoot up next to legends.
Roving beauty spots crawl over favourite body parts.
Dangerous friends sieze their own i-D, spreading a clear message only a rock album could – EVIDENCE.
It’s the chaos theory on the stockmarket, the memory of nylon, the burns on hands and bells
THAT kind of thing you only see in teenage dreams – faster, simpler, skinnier and less full of bullshit.

It’s Kmossed, at Up-Ta NEVER!

P.S L.O.V.E (picture of penis)

WHERE WORDS FAIL, IMMEDIATE PAINTING PERSUASIVE.

And if I suggest you enter, it means that I reach to strike a fist you on behalf as a greeting.

To me, do themselves the trouble. But at least corresponds to my head, my necklace and my titmouses.

Repeat those customers of the behaviour of nightclubs.
Throw Squillionaires a sicky!

Prefer to have very much shaking hands of the too big reflection as the too big drink.

HEY DESIGNER! It has arrived all over!
Become a Lotus Eater, but first of all, find out what one is.

And HEY DESIGNER! It has depended once again!
And attempt not to become the smoker of opium if you do not presume to be yourselves.

Can’t you see I love Pretending to be in Pain?

Be Creator. Be good. To be bad. To be KMOSSED

LETTER TO NYC

Dear New York,
after winter months of 2 battling/infatuated BLACK CATS, Kmossed is back on its highway and drivin' fast towards another show. It's gonna be all blood, sweat and tears and I'm thinkin' of you and..

Sorry 4 not attending fashion week. I give you tatoos, cabintry, crossiants and this bigol' DEAR letter to SUPERMODEL MAD MANHATTAN instead.
1st things 1st we def. have some things in common. YOU, you absolute chameleon. Kmossed loves your perverse dedication to constant change, which, come to think of it, is a good description for fashion itself. And with your own timings, your own clients and YOUR own rules, and just like KMOSSED, you are difficult to fence in. You're offensively arrogant + perplexingle tolerant.

::INTERVIEW::Kmossed + NYC::Sept 2009::4.23PM::
KM (in a DEAD-on imitation of a whispery WAR-CRY) "Will I return?"
NY "Yes. After your Show."
KM "I can't wait. It's not right now, right now"
NY "Be patient."
KM "Blood, sweat and years to talk about things like, WHAT IS YOUR POSITION IN THIS WORLD OF LUXURY?"
NY "...a museum piece."
ENDED 4.26PM
......
New York, we are re-tangled. As straight as Broadway and as twisted as the alleys of Brooklyn.

Kmossed 4 Karl 4 Coco

You might wonder what the PUNKY safety pins on a Paris-Londres dress have got to do with Chanel...

EVERYTHING.

WHAT KMOSSED LOVES ABOUT KARL THE MOST:
Karl Lagerfeld is a clever, clever man and Chanel is a clever, clever company, and his
genius is to find a way to put Coco's DNA into everything.
Draws & talks at the same time
Loves being thin.
Surrounds himself with uh-mazing women
Unexpected Modesty (his ego comes second to Coco!)
Drinks cock-Zero in a big, heavy crystal goblet, hows that for weird synthetic life-juice to give you a beyond-human quality! ooh Coke Zero is just so Fabulously nihilistic!
He DOESN'T think people should buy art. Why buy Jeff Koons for 25m when if you had yr eyes open 15 years ago you could have got a better price.
He has made a new friend of Kelly Osborne and can make her look like a fierce-girl version of Leigh Bowery.

Karl Lagerfeld presents Silent Coco Chanel Film

Get ready for this.
Another Coco Chanel film will be released soon. This time, Karl Lagerfeld calls the shots. Debuting this Wednesday with Chanel’s Paris-Moscow pre fall ready-to-wear collection, Karl Lagerfeld has created a silent movie about Coco starring model Edita Vilkeviciute as the young designer. Karl speaks “Today, people are ready for silent movies again, as they spend time — hours, I would say — looking at text messages and e-mails. I always loved silent movies.”

I’m getting really impatient.

GROW UP

Sylvia Jeffriess and Rosie Kavanavoch present GROW UP, a two-man show focussing on the vacuous nature of the cliche.
Jeffriess comic style grotesquesness bound together with visual and textual inuendos steam up alongside Rosie's rocket-fuelled collages, and signature visual backdrops that seem
forever submerged in their own autobiography!

Arm in arm they come together to what...?

To generate activity, to elaborate on the concept of individual power and their collective force of art, rock, & roll!

This time its Nova Landeaus (NY) 4 KmØssed teeshirt 1#.
Naomi Campbell did NOT famously fall on the catwalk modelling the collection.
Kmossed fashion is very open ended and referential: the cheif architect of revolt, ignoring conventional fashion directions, goes her own way, & is no stranger to the forms of sabotage that can pave the way for the next upheaval in style or taste.
